Angie Shephard and her son Levi Shephard raise Suffolk and Shetland sheep on San Juan Island. I am so happy to bring some of their lovely fiber to you. Once Levi realized that hand spinners love suffolk fiber (and that decent fiber can be hard to find!) he set his goals for the flock to not only produce healthy lambs for the meat market, but also for them to have lovely fiber. Suffolk fiber is springy and delightful to spin. It is also naturally felt-resistant! It is one of the down sheep breeds (from the Downs area of Britain) and you can machine wash and dry your knits and they will not felt.
This fine suffolk fiber is the first shearing of the year-old lambs. It has at least a 3" staple length and is really soft. It is an excellent example of how wonderful Suffolk can be! Roving processed by Skagit Woolen Works in Mount Vernon, WA.
